Canaan

Canaan is a founding member of Friends-Montessori School.  He holds his BA in English, his M.Ed. in Montessori Education, and his Montessori certification from the American Montessori Society for ages 6-9.  He has been teaching in Montessori schools since 2013.  

Canaan learned about the Montessori Method after looking into and wanting to work in peace education.  He saw the Montessori elementary emphasis on asking big questions, self-guided discovery, communal classroom culture, & aiding humanity through the means of the child as deeply aligning with his Quaker beliefs & values.  He sees elementary education as an opportunity for creating a child-centered community focused on learning & building models for a better society focused on peace, compassion, service, & justice.  

He serves as our school's studio arts guide & supporting administrator.
